frequently asked questions

Below are many popular questions about the expansion proposal.
Does part of the upgrade of the shopping center include expansion? Will the shopping center become bigger?

We will not expand the shopping center anymore than we already can within septic limitations.  Currently the center is 24,130 square feet.  Maximum expansion will be limited to less than 40,000.

Will this bring more traffic to our neighborhood?

Technically it should do the opposite. Retail Services that are provided closer to home will reduce congestion at surrounding intersections.

How will this expansion of sewer impact quality of life for the neighborhood?

It is intended to enhance the quality of life, Neighbors have expressed a desire for a small high quality grocery store, a coffee shop, a restaurant, and other high water users.  We want to provide a shopping center that will be a pleasurable gathering place for community members.

Why now?

We are trying to be environmentally sustainable, reducing traffic and protecting the water table for wells. With all recent changes and new development, there is more demand and interest now in having convenient services.

Won’t this change the character of the neighborhood?

It should significantly upgrade the character of the neighborhood. We believe the shopping center needs to be renovated to match the style of homes in adjacent neighborhoods like Belvedere and the character of small town centers in New England.

What will the extension of sewer do for the Old White House?

It will hopefully allow it to attract a first class Country Inn restaurant similar to Blacks Market or Comus Inn, etc.

Will the Old White House be expanded?

Yes, but not in excess of what could be built under a septic system.

Who will pay for the sewer extension?

The owners of the Shopping Center and the Old White House.

Will anyone one else, be able to attach to the extended sewer?

NO, it is prohibited by WSSC to connect a residential sewer to a commercial pressure sewer line.
